598,636. Drum brakes. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. Sept. 14, 1945, No. 23775. Conventinn date, Nov. 13, 1944. [Class 103 (i)] A drum brake and stub axle assembly for a vehicle steering wheel comprises as a single casting or forging, a stub axle 28, steering knuckle 19, 21 and one or, as shown, a pair of hydraulic cylinders 44, 48 each having a pair of pistons arranged to act on adjacent ends of a pair of brake shoes to apply them to a drum 40. The shoes may be arranged to anchor at either end according to the direction of rotation of the drum as described for instance in Specification 544,949. The cylinders are connected by a pipe 54 and have supply and bleeder passages 56, 52.
