Abstract
932,731. Measuring braking torque. CLEVELAND PNEUMATIC INDUSTRIES Inc. Aug. 24, 1960, No. 29309/60. Class 40 (1). [Also in Group XXXIII] Means for applying a torque compensating for that due to brake actuation on an aircraft bogie-type undercarriage are shown in Fig. 2. Twin wheels 23, 24 are journalled on the ends of a beam 16 pivoted to the undercarriage leg 10 at 17. The outer non-rotary part of a brake located between the rear wheels is connected to the beam by a link 27 containing a differential transformer which produces an electrical signal representing the braking torque applied to wheels 24. The signal is fed over amplifier 38 to an electric motor 52 controlling an hydraulic valve assembly 39, which supplies fluid at a pressure which is a function of the input signal to motor 52, to a piston and cylinder type actuator 32, to apply a compensating torque to the beam. A second electrical signal representing the braking torque applied to the front wheels 23 may be added as an input to amplifier 38. The torque-sensing link 27 is shown in section in Fig. 3, and has an armature 107 secured to one end of the link, and coils 103, 104 and 106 at the other end of the link. Coil 104 is energized from an A.C. supply, and coils 103 and 106 are connected back-toback so that their resultant output is proportional to the stress in the link, and thus to the braking torque.
