Abstract

442,236. Brake blocks. KNORRBREMSE AKT.-GES., 9, Neue Bahnhofstrasse, Lichtenberg, Berlin. Sept. 28, 1934, No. 27851. Convention date, Oct. 24, 1933. [Class 103 (i)] In order to obtain a more even pressure distribution over the parts of a brake block and also to avoid distortion of the block by heating, it is composed of a number of elements of small arc length which act radially on the wheel, the holder with the block elements which it carries being moved bodily to and from the wheel in applying and releasing the brakes. In Fig. 1, block elements 4 are connected in pairs to balance beams 3 pivoted on a holder 1 pivoted to the rod 2 by which the pressure is applied. In Fig. 2, the block elements are pivoted together in the manner of chain links, the holder comprising rods 1 pivoted to the end block elements and to the rod 2 so as to transmit the pressure to the end elements in a direction tangential to the wheel.
