Abstract

643,383. Disc brakes. BRITISH MESSIER, Ltd., CONWAY, H. G., and ROBERTSHAW, R. J. Nov. 28, 1947, No. 31591. [Class 103 (i)] A disc brake comprises non-rotatable discs 28, 31, 35 carrying friction pads 20, 32, 33, 36 and rotatable discs 30, 34 together with a series of cylinder and piston means 25, 26 disposed around the wheel axis which apply the brake when supplied with fluid under pressure. The flange 24 carrying the brake operating means has an external cylindrical surface which is fitted with a circular ring 44 machined out internally to provide a circumferential oil passage 45 which connects with the radially drilled passage 43 from the cylinders 25, thus the supply of fluid under pressure to the connection 46 will operate all the pistons 26 simultaneously. Two separate circumferential series of piston and cylinder means may be provided, one for normal operation and the other being connected to a supply of fluid pressure for use in an emergency.
