Abstract

798,985. Hydraulic brakes. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. May 4, 1955 [May 10, 1954], No. 12964/55. Addition to 783,082. Class 103 (1). In a modification to a brake of the type described and claimed in the parent Specification the inner adjacent ends of the oppositely acting pistons of the fluid pressure cylinders of the disc unit are provided with integral interengaging elements which act as guiding surfaces when the pistons are applied to hold pistons coaxially aligned with each fluid pressure cylinder. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 3 which is a section through one of the operating cylinders, the pistons are so constructed to render them interacting, i.e. one piston 104 is provided with an axially extending portion 114 which slidably engages in a central bore 106 in the piston 102. Other surfaces are also interacting and hydraulic pressure is supplied via annular chamber 116 to force pistons 104, 102 axially apart to cause friction pads 131 to frictionally engage the radial portion 16, 18 of the drum. The friction pads are backed by plates 130 to which are secured flat circular portions 126, 128 carrying spherical elements 122, 124 which are retained in sockets 118, 120 by retaining springs. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 758,882, 761,076, 776,743, 776,744 and 783,081.
