Abstract

914,686. Disc brakes. DUNLOP RUBBER CO. Ltd. June 18, 1959 [June 28, 1958], No. 20806/58. Class 103 (1). In a spot-type disc brake, the pads of friction material 6 are retained with side clearance in the non-rotatable housing 2 in a radial direction by means of torque-taking surfaces 8 formed on members 9 and 10 secured to the radially outer and radially inner parts of the housing respectively. The surfaces 8 bear against complementary surfaces 7 on the friction pads and guide the latter in an axial direction towards the disc 1 when fluid pressure actuators 11 are pressurized. A clearance of the order of onesixteenth of an inch is provided between the radially-extending sides 5 of the calliper members 3 of the housing 2 and the pads of friction material 6 so that accumulated dirt does not tend to prevent ready movement of the pads during operation of the brake. Specification 688,382 is referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 861,091.
