926,202. Drum brakes. M. L. AVIATION CO. Ltd. Jan. 11, 1962 [Feb. 24, 1961], No. 6883/61. Class 103 (1). In a wheel brake in which a number of shoes are forced into contact with the inner surface of a drum 4 against the action of brake springs by the action of cams moved by rotation of a cam-operating shaft 5, an arm 6 mounted on the shaft 5 and a connecting rod 8 pivoted at 7 to the arm 6 and at 9 to an operating lever 10 mounted on a pivot 11 on the axle support 2 are so arranged that as the lever 10 is moved to apply the brake the rod 8 moves from one side of the pivot 11 to the other so that the brake is locked on by the reaction of the brake springs. As-shown, a second operating lever 17 pivoted at 18 is connected via a pivoted link 14 to the lever 10 so that movement of either lever applies the brake. The levers 10, 17 are formed with flattened ends 13, 19. The length of the rod 8 is adjustable by rotation of a part 27 engageable by a spanner so that the ends 25, 26 of the rod which are threaded in opposite senses screw into or out of the oppositelythreaded parts 20, 21. Lock-nuts 23, 24 lock the rod 8 at any pre-adjusted length.
