Abstract
A disc brake for industrial applications has two brake shoes (12A, 12B) which are pressed against the disc (10) by actuating the levers (18A, 18B). The brake shoes are attached to their respective levers by bolts. A torsion spring (47) is wound around one bolt (19A) with one end attached to the push off rod (49). When the brake is applied the reaction on the push off rod rotates the spring, very slightly. When the brake is released the spring tends to bind on the bolt and so does not return fully to its original position thus taking up brake pad wear.
