Abstract

The carrier cable brake is fitted on the running-gear of a large-gondola cable railway, with carrier and traction cable, mounted on its main girder. The brake incorporates two brakeshoes, fixed on the main girder (4) of the running gear, and swivelling about the carrier cable. These are hinge-connected by an elbow lever rod (10), and by a compression rod (11) with a spring damper unit (8). A locking device, responding to traction cable tear, is mounted on the compression rod end. A cable tear unbolts this, so that combined release spring force and elbow lever rod action results in raising of the bracking force or attainment of the characteristic curve. Constant braking force and reliable operation are ensured, even after prolonged braking action and concomitant wear.
