Abstract

The handbrake for a vehicle using air brakes has a linkage and valve to prevent the footbrake from being used in addition to the handbrake. The handbrake linkage is connected to the eye of a bar (11) one rotating shaft (9). A fork on the shaft engages on the shaft (2) of the piston in the foot brake air cylinder (1). A cam (12) on the end of the shaft operates a switch in a reservoir (13) connected in series with the air line (14) to the foot brake cylinder. As the handbrake is applied, the cam operates on the reservoir causing it to vent the air in the cylinder, and prevents an additive force of the hand and footbrake systems.
