Abstract

A motor vehicle brake pedal of the variable lever arm type including a pedal lever (10) pivotally mounted on a fixed part of the motor vehicle chassis so that it can be depressed by the foot of the driver against the action of a return spring, and a plunger (38) engaging the piston (42) of the master brake cylinder and with the other end secured to a bifurcated bracket (18) pivotally connected to the pedal lever (10). The bracket (18) includes a cam follower (34) riding on a cam surface (36) of the pedal lever (10) to keep the plunger (38) constantly in a substantially horizontal position and exert a maximum force thereon in all positions of the pedal lever (10).
