Abstract

1452822 Brake operating systems DAVID BROWN TRACTORS Ltd 1 July 1974 [12 July 1973 7 Aug 1973] 33259/73 and 37350/73 Heading F2E [Also in Division B7] A clutch brake operating system for an agricultural tractor comprises three levers 12, 13, 14 each carrying a foot pedal 15, 16, 17, the lever 12 being arranged to operate the near-side brake, the lever 14 being arranged to operate the offside brake, and the lever 13 constituting a master lever carrying a pivotally mounted cross-bar 26 arranged to operate both levers 12, 14 with an equalizing action when the master lever 13 is operated, and further comprises a clutch operating lever 34. As shown, the lever 12 is rigidly secured to a shaft 10 by a pin 18 and has a pair of lugs 11 connected to the near-side brake-the shaft 10 is pivotable about its axis by lever 12 to apply the near-side brake. The other two levers 13, 14 are pivotable about shaft 10, the lever 14 having a pair of lugs 20 connected to the off-side brake. All three levers 12, 13, 14 have portions 21, 22, 23 which extend on the opposite side of the shaft 10 to the pedals 15, 16, 17. The portion 22 is connected to a hand brake linkage 24, and carries a pivot-pin 25 for the lever 26 whose ends extend below portions 21, 23. Each end of the cross-bar 26 has a screw-threaded hole in which a threaded stud 27 is adjustably secured by a lock nut 28, the heads 29 of studs 27 providing points of contact between the cross-bar 26 and the portions 21, 23. The clutch-operating lever 34 carrying a pedal 35 has a bore 36 enabling it to be pivotally mounted on a sleeve 30 coaxially surrounding the shaft 10. The lever 34 is prevented from moving from a boss 32 by an internal circlip 37. In a modification the levers 12, 13, 14 do not have portions which extend on the opposite side of the shaft 10 to the pedals, the pivot pin 25 being disposed between shaft 10 and pedal 16 and the ends of the cross-bar 26 extending above adjacent parts of levers 12, 14.
