Force - transmitting mechanism.-A spring device for releasing the brakes of tramcars comprises a rod 1 pivoted at 2 to a fixed bracket 3 and engaging the brake beam 14 under the influence of a spring 8 on a rod 6 which is connected to the rod 1 at a point relatively near the pivot 2 so that the pressure of the spring on the rod is substantially constant irrespective of the variable release position of the rod as the brake shoes wear. Two such spring devices, one for each of a pair of brake beams disposed between the wheels cf a bogie, may be mounted upon a single bracket.
