Abstract

471,989. Brakes. BENDIX, Ltd., and IRVING, J. S. April 25, 1936, No. 11815. [Class 103 (i)] Brake-operating mechanism for vehicles comprises a balance bar e pivoted on a brake pedal a or lever operated thereby and connected at g to the front brakes and through a compression link j and a spring r to the rear brakes. The pedal a carries an abutment adapted to engage the bar e when the spring yields so that the bar e moves bodily with the pedal to allow an increased effort to be applied to the front brakes. The spring r may be precompressed. The link j is connected to the spring r and the rear brakes by means of a lever k on a fixed pivot l. The connecting point of the bar e and link j may be opposite the pivot b of the pedal a, so that no further increase in pressure is exerted on the rear brakes on further movement of the pedal or this point may be above the pivot in order that the pressure is decreased.
