489,187. Vehicle brakes. PRATT, J. H., MANLEY, G. E., and GIRLING, A. H. G. Feb. 18, 1937, No. 4848. [Class 103 (i)] To maintain a brake transmission in tension in order to avoid rattle, the brake pedal 3 or a lever operated thereby carries levers 5, 10 connected at one end, by rods 6, 11, to the front and rear brakes respectively and engaging at the other springs 7, 12 contained in holes in the lever 3. The lever 10 is mounted on a rod 8 slidable in a hole in the lever 3, and maintained in position by a spring 13, which at a certain brake tension, yields, whereupon further increase in braking effort is transmitted to the front brakes only. In a modification the levers 5, 10 engage the opposite ends of the same spring which passes through the pivot of the brake lever.
