Abstract

413,435. Brake-operating mechanism. KARRIER MOTORS, Ltd., CLAYTON, R. F., and AVERNS, R. DEAN-, Karrier Works, St. Thomas's Road, Huddersfield. March 18, 1933, No. 8237. [Class 103 (i).] In brake mechanism wherein brakes on a tractor and a trailer vehicle are operable simultaneously from the tractor through a compensating or equalizing device, alternative connections are provided for the operation of the tractor brakes when there is no trailer. The equalizing link d is pivoted to a link e adapted to be coupled to the trailer brakes, to an arm f fast on the tractor brake-shaft g and to a link c connected to an arm b fast on the shaft of the hand lever a. A second arm h secured to the shaft g is connected by link i to an arm j the boss of which can be slid into and out of engagement with that of the arm b. When a trailer is coupled to the tractor the arms b, j are disengaged as shown so that the brakes of the two vehicles are operated through the link d but when there is no trailer and the end of the link e being free the tractor brakes could not be applied through the link d, the arm j is engaged with the arm b by axial movement of a rod p effected by turning a lever o carried by the rod and engaging a fixed cam surface o<1>.
