Abstract

292,548. Soc. Anon. des Automobiles Unic. June 22, 1927, [Convention date]. Force - transmitting mechanism.-A force - transmitting mechanism particularly applicable for applying the brakes of motor vehicles, comprises two levers connected by a spring so that as long as the effort transmitted does not exceed the tension of the spring, the two levers move together, but when this effort is exceeded a locking device for one lever becomes operative and the velocity ratio is thereby reduced. The mechanism shown comprises a lever a pivoted at b carrying on a pivot g a second lever h to which are connected, in the case of brake mechanism, the rods l, n connected respectively to the hand lever and to the brakes. A spring k connected to the cranked arm i of the lever h and to the lever a normally holds the lever h against a stop j on the lever a and holds a detent d carried by the lever a out of engagement with a fixed rack p against the action of a spring e. Thus when a pull is applied to the rod l the levers a, h move together about the pivot b until the. brakes having been brought into engagement, the spring k yields permitting the detent d to engage the rack p. The lever a is thus held and the lever h turns about the pivot g, the effective pressure being thus applied to the brakes with an increased leverage.
