Abstract

204,359. Bennett, W. July 26, 1922. Actuated or applied by springs; locking by frictional detents.-A spring-applied brake for perambulators &c. comprises a rod A attached by clips to a pair of cee-springs D mounted on the bearing springs of the vehicle and carrying arms C with brake blocks F and an arm B for connection to operating means mounted on the handle bar G. The spring D may be used to apply the pressure to the blocks F but preferably an additional spring M attached to the arm C and to the axle is provided. The operating means comprises a lever I pivoted at I<1> to a bracket H secured to the handle bar and a link J pivoted at I<2> to the lever I and connected by a wire L to the arm B. The brake is released by pulling the lever back to the position shown in full lines in Fig. S in which it bears against a buffer spring K and in which the lever and link assume a substantially dead-centre position so that the pressure is not felt by the hand. Upon removing the hand from the lever the brake is applied by the springs.
