Abstract
438,316. Cycle brakes. URRY, F. J., Lucifer House, Lionel Street, Birmingham. March 14, 1935, No. 7923. [Class 136 (i)] In brakes for cycles &c. blockcarrying members are moved transversely into contact with the wheel rim &c. by the straightening of flexible ligatures when the latter are subjected to tension by the operating wire or rod. Plates or levers 3 carrying the brake blocks 1 are pivoted at 13 to clips 4 on the frame, and are acted upon by a length of bowed flexible cable 6, which passes through sleeves 7 slidable in lugs 14 on the levers 3, and through a curved tubular saddlelike member 8 to which is secured the end of an operating cable 9 connected to a hand lever, the member 8 being raised against the action of a spring 9<a>. The ends of the cable 6 are fixed in thimbles 10 engaged in lugs 11 on the clips 4. The cable 6 slides in the member 8, so that an equalizing action of the brakes is obtained. The levers 3 may be acted upon by torsion springs on the pivot screws 13.
