Abstract
433,377. Cycle brakes. PHILLIPS & CO., Ltd., J. A., and FIELD, W., Credenda Works, Bridge Street, Smethwick, near Birming- ham, Feb. 14, 1934, No. 4850. [Class 136 (i)] In a cycle brake of the side-pull calliper type, the pull of the cable or other transmission member is transmitted to the calliper levers through an intermediate lever, with or without connecting links, in such a way as to reduce the force required to apply the brake. The calliper levers a, b are provided respectively with extension arms d, e, and the casing h of the cable transmission is connected to the arm e, while the cable j is detachably and pivotally connected at k to a lever l, which is pivoted at p to a link q pivoted to the arm d, the inner end of the lever l being pivotally connected to a link m pivoted at n to the arm e. The calliper levers are normally retracted by an arch-shaped wire spring anchored on the pivot c and connected at its ends s to the levers. In alternative constructions, the lever l may be pivoted at p directly on a rigid lug on the arm d, and the inner end of the lever l may be pivoted directly to the arm e.
