Abstract

471,436. Brakes. PRATT, J. H., MANLEY, G. E., and GIRLING, A. H. G. March 10, 1936, No. 7167. [Class 103 (i)] Mechanism for distributing braking effort between the front and rear wheels of a vehicle comprises a pedal 5 mounted on a fixed pivot 5a and by means of a link 7 operating a distribution member 8, connected to the front brakes by a rod 9 and to the rear brakes by a rod 11. The member 8 is formed of two parallel plates supported by means of a roller 15 in a slot 14a in a plate 14 which is supported at one end by a spring 18. The slot 14 has two cam surface 14b, 14c over which the roller 15 moves during brake application. The lever 14 is fulcrumed to a bracket 16 by means passing through a slot 8a in the lever 8. These means carry a projection 14a to which is attached one end of a spring 17 connected to the brake pedal and adapted to maintain a tension in the brake system. A hand lever operates the rear brakes by means of a lever 20.
