Abstract
479,893. Vehicle brakes. S.S. CARS. Ltd., and HEYNES, W. M. July 20, 1937, No. 20017. [Class 103 (i)] In a motor vehicle in which the distribution of the applying forces is varied during brake application the rear wheel brakes are connected by a rod 15 to a lever 13 on a fixed pivot 14 the other end of which is connected to a floating lever 16 connected by a rod 17 to the front wheel brakes. The lever 16 is engaged substantially at its centre by an arm 20 pivoted at 19 on the brake pedal 11. A spring 21 is arranged between the pedal and the arm 20. When the brake applying force has increased above a predetermined value the spring is compressed and the end 24 of the brake pedal engages the lever 16 at a point nearer the connection to the front wheel brakes which are accordingly applied with a greater leverage. In a modification the part 24 is nearer the pivot of the brake pedal than the part 23 in order that the pedal 11 shall act with a greater leverage after the spring is compressed.
