Abstract

535,462. Hand brakes for vehicles. BLAKE, F. W. March 2, 1940, No. 3935. [Class 103 (i)] Brake gear for vehicles, particularly for road trailer units normally supported at the front end on a power unit, in which a pull rod 2, as shown in plan Fig. 1, applies the brake by means of an arm 3 on a short vertical shaft 4, which is turned by means of a link 6 connected to the shorter arm of a J-shaped lever 7 pivoted at 8 to the vehicle frame. The means for turning the 'lever 7 comprises a forked member 10 engaging the lever 7 and slidable by means of a carriage 12 along a guide 14 to turn the lever 7 into a position parallel to the guide so that the brake return spring 9 cannot turn the lever 7 back.
