Abstract

476,360. Cycle brakes. ARANA, D. March 15, 1937, No. 7535. [Class 136 (i)] Mechanism for simultaneously operating the front and rear brakes of a bicycle by back - pedalling comprises a lever loosely mounted on the crank axle and provided with pivoted spring pawls, and with a pulley at one end, around which passes an operating cable connected to the two brakes, the pawls being tripped by one of the cranks, on back-pedalling, to operate the cable. A lever member 75 is pivotally mounted on the crank axle, and is providedwith an arm 75<1> carrying a pulley 70, around which passes a continuous cable 24 connected to the front and rear brakes. The member 75 also carries spring-pressed pivoted pawls 78, which on back-pedalling are engaged by the left-hand. crank 37 to effect the brakeactuating movement of the member 75. The member 75 is mounted between two washers which form a channel in which the lever can move freely.
