688,368. Treadle mechanism. DUVERGE, A. Nov. 15, 1951, No. 26782/51, Classes 136 (ii) and 136 (iii) A cycle or like foot-operated vehicle has a driving mechanism comprising treadles B having adjacent their rear ends depending arms C and links D pivotally connected to the arms C and to cranks E which are mounted on the axle A' of the chain wheel A and drive it through free wheel mechanism. A wire cable F passes over a pulley F<SP>1</SP> on the frame and is connected at its ends to the treadles B so that when one treadle is depressed the other is automatically raised. Pivotal movement of the treadles is limited by stops G<SP>1</SP> on curved guides G. The chain wheel A is mounted on one end of an L-shaped member H which has a slot H<SP>1</SP> in the other arm through which a fastener extends so that the chain wheel is adjustably secured to the vehicle to allow the tension of the chain 1 to be varied.
