726,801. Chain-shift change-speed gearing. CAMPAGNOLO, T. Sept. 5, 1952 [Sept. 7, 1951], No. 22430/52. Class 80 (2). A chain-shifting device, for bicycles having a plurality of driven sprockets on the rear wheel axle, comprises a stirrup 1 secured to a forked frame member and to the wheel spindle of the bicycle, a part 7 pivoted on a cylindrical member 25 surrounded by a helical spring 27 urging the part 7 rotationally with respect thereto, parallel links 4, 5 pivoted at one end to the part 7 and at the other to a member 6, a chain-guiding pulley 23 rotatable on the member 6, and a control cable 12, secured at 15 to an arm of the link 4, to move the linkage 4, 5, 6 and the pulley 23 perpendicularly to the plane of the driving chain, such movement being opposed by a return spring 13 and limited in both directions by adjustable stop screws 17, 18. The spring 27 rotates the whole chain-shifting device in the direction necessary to maintain chain-tension, a stop 26 serving to limit this rotation.
