Abstract

581,705. Scooters. STOCKS, H. B., HASTE, C. A., and ENTWISTLE, T. B. April 5, 1945, No. 6305/44. [Classes 136 (ii) and 136 (iii)] A foot-propelled scooter of the kind in which a pedal reciprocates a flexible link to rotate the driven wheel during the forward movement of the flexible link, wherein the pedal 7 is in the form of a bell crank lever pivotally mounted with one arm 6 extending rearwardly above, and the other arm 8 extending downwardly and terminating below the footboard 2, the flexible link 9 extending rearwardly beneath the footboard from the arm 8 to pass over a wheel 10 which is rotated thereby to drive the rear scooter wheel 1a. The flexible link is in the form of a chain 9 anchored to the footboard 2 through the medium of a spring 11, the sprocket 10, Fig. 3, being loosely mounted on the shaft 15 but coupled to a sprocket 17 through a free wheel device 21, 22. The sprocket 17 drives the rear wheel 1a through an endless chain 18.
