Abstract

723,062. Crank-axle brackets. PHILLIPS & CO., Ltd., J. A. Nov. 20, 1953 [Sept. 11, 1952] No. 22795/52. Classes 136(2) and 136(3). In a pedal tricycle of the kind in which the rear axle is fixed in relation to the frame and the bottom bracket is slidably mounted for adjusting the tension of the chain, the bottom bracket 13 has a bearing plate 14 which engages a complementary attachment plate 15 secured to or integral with the tricycle frame 16, the bearing plate 14 being slidable with respect to the plate 15 under the control of adjusting means 22 in a direction for varying the tension of the chain. The adjusting means comprises a stud 22 secured to the bottom bracket 13 and passing through an opening in a lug 23 formed in the plate 15. An adjusting nut 24 is provided. The adjusting means may be locked by a lock nut 26 (Fig. 4). In the embodiment shown in Figs. 1 and 3, studs 18 are secured to the plate 14 and slide in slots 19, in the plate 15 the plates being clamped in adjusted position by nuts 20. In an alternative embodiment shown in Figs. 4 and 6, the plates 14, 15 are arranged in a slidable keying position by a dovetail joint.
