Abstract

598,750. Cycle brakes. LIONS, J. M. Sept. 7, 1945, No. 23168. Convention date, Sept. 30, 1944. [Class 136 (i)] A cycle rim brake comprises a main member 1 having a brake block 17 adjustably attached to one extremity, means for arcuately advancing and withdrawing a plunger 23 slidably mounted on attachments secured to the other extremity of the main member and having a brake block 25 attached to it, means for allowing the pressure of both brake blocks to be equalized, and means for adjustably securing the brake to the frame. The member 1 is U- shaped - and is mounted on a fulcrum pin which projects from a T-slotted base block 4 adapted to receive the head of a bolt 6 by which together with a nut 8 the brake is secured to the cycle. A thrust plate 19 is secured to a boss 18 on the member 1 by two shouldered pins 20 forming bearings for rollers 21 which run in an arcuate slot 24 in the plunger 23. A second thrust plate 22 is on the other side of the plunger 23. The actuating force is transmitted to the plunger by means of a control wire 35 in a sleeve 30 mounted in an adaptor 23 at the top of the plunger. To withdraw the plunger after action a torsion spring 31 is provided, one end of which bears against the plunger and the other against the fixed thrust plate 19. Levers 40, 41 control the front and rear wheel brakes respectively. The levers are pivotally mounted on a fulcrum pin 42 dependant from a securing plate 43 which is adapted to be secured to a handle bar clamp lug 46. Each lever is forked to receive slotted cylindrical control wire holders 51, 52.
