Abstract

585,898. Stuffing-box and piston packings. AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO., Ltd., RIBBESFORD CO., Ltd., and THORNHILL, P. W. Nov. 13, 1944, No. 22384. [Classes 122 (i) and 122 (v)] A packing device comprises a cylindrical rubber tube 14 slidably engaging the first of two telescopic elements 10 and 11 on one of its curved surfaces, whilst the other curved surface is engaged by a tubular, flanged, resilient retaining ring 15, having inwardly sprung fingers 22, carried by the second element 11. The arrangement may be such that the packing ring 14 acts radially outwards instead of inwards, in which case the flange 20 of the retaining ring would point outwards and the fingers 22 would press the ring 14 outwardly against the inner cylindrical surface of the element 11.
