Abstract

581,593. Piston and stuffing-box packing. AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO., Ltd., and BROCK, W. H. J. Jan. 12, 1945, No. 1047. [Classes 122 (i) and 122 (v)] A rubber U-shaped sealing member 18 has one wall 19 as a lip engaging the cylinder 10 and the second wall 20 engaging a surface on the shouldered piston 12 and its spigot 15, the ring 18 being located between the shoulder 14 and a retaining disc 21 initially having an annular coned portion 22, as shown in Fig. 2, which is deformed inwardly by flattening when in position, as shown in Fig. 1, and having also spring fingers 24 pressing outwardly on to the lip 19. The sealing member may be mounted against a shoulder in the'cylinder and have its inner wall as a lip engaging the shaft in which case the conical annular part of the retaining ring engages the wall of the cylinder.
