Abstract
580,372. Casement windows. WHITE, B. H. V. March 13, 1944, No. 4590. [Class 20 (iii)] In a window, a roller hinge is axially mounted in bearings in the top and bottom fixed frame members so that the window may be raised and swung inwardly over the sill, such vertical movement being permitted by a gap between the upper window member and the top fixed frame member which gap is closeable by an external hinged flap, together with a baffle movably mounted on the vertical fixed frame member opposite to the hinge so as normally to be engaged by the free edge of the window when shut but to be movable to one side to allow this edge to pass when the window is to be swung inwardly. As shown a casement window C has a roller hinge B arranged so that the sash may be lifted to clear the sill G and allow the window to swing into the room. A baffle plate F normally prevents the free edge of the window from swinging into the room but this baffle may be moved laterally by means of a handle H operating a rack and pinion E to allow this to take place. A space left between the top of the sash and the tubular metal frame A, to allow the sash to be raised, is covered by a hinged flap which opens when the window is opened outwards.
