Abstract

371,060. Window fastenings ; stays. LAURENCE, I. L., 386, Goldhawk Road, London. Jan. 23, 1931; No. 2359. [Classes 44 and 65 (i).] Relates to casement or lattice windows of the kind which are adapted to swing both inwardly and outwardly. According to the invention, the window comprises, in combination, (1) a thin slidable plate or strip 4, Figs. 1 and 2, carried by the sash frame 1, or the outer fixed frame 2, and (2) a pivoted draught-excluding flap 3, Fig. 3, mounted along the lower edge of the sash frame. In the form shown, the plate 4 is mounted within the frame 2 and is provided with pins 4a which extend through horizontal slots 2e in plates 5 secured to the frame 2. The pins carry knobs 4b which enable the plate 4 to be moved by hand. In the position shown, the plate prevents the inward movement of the hinged sash, and also co-operates with a pivoted catch 6 to effect the locking of the casement in the closed position. A perforated pivoted stay 7 co-operates with a pin 8 to retain the sash in its required open position. This pin is hinged to the sill 2f so 'that it may move out of the path of the casement when the latter is swung inwards. In the alternative construction, the plate 4 is carried by the sash frame 1 and near the outer face thereof. Pins on the plate extend inwards through the sash frame in order that the plate may be operated from the inside.
