Abstract
580,785. Sliding sash windows. ELGIN, R. July 24, 1944, No. 14138. [Classes 20 (iii) and 137] A sliding sash window is provided with a hinged perforated flap 10 attached to the top meeting rail 9 of the lower inside sash 3, its free edge fitting in the closed position against the frame and panes of the top outer sash 2 to prevent rattle, and permit ventilation, when the window is open, through the perforations 11 up through the space between the panes of the sashes 2 and 3. In addition to a louvre 6, hinged to the bottom sill and coacting with the bottom rail of the lower sash 3, when the window is opened, there is provided a fixed louvre 14 at the top of the window, of the same depth as the louvre 6 and forming a mosquito-proof joint with the top rail of the upper sash 2. Further means may be provided to prevent rattle consisting of sliding barrel bolts with padded noses fixed to the hinged flap so that when they are projected they are forced against the frame members of the upper sash. For ease in movement the upper sash is made shorter than the bottom sash.
