Abstract

1358982 Hinges; windows; window operating mechanism J H BIERLICH 21 May 1971 [21 May 1970] 24759/70 Headings E1J E2F and E2M In a window assembly which is pivoted about a horizontal axis a window sash 5 is hinged to the surround 1 by a hinge device 10 which comprises two members 25, 26 (Fig. 3) interconnected by pivot means 27 and a stay 14 pivoted at one end 9a to a member 9 pivoted to member 8 and the other end portion of the stay is pivoted to the window sash 5 at 5a. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2 the surround 1 is provided with secondary stiles formed in two parts 6, 7 to which are attached the members 8 and 9 respectively of the hinge 10. The movable secondary stile part 7 permits the window to be pivoted inwardly of the surround, through 180‹ from a ventilation position shown in Fig. 1 to the position shown in Fig. 2 to enable the outside of the window to be cleaned from inside the building. The upper cross bar of the sash 5 has a weather-proofing cover moulding 15. Similar cover mouldings 16 and 17 are provided on the parts 7 and 6 respectively of the secondary stile and at 18 on the cill 2. An easily separable hinge device is described in the Specification (Figures 7 and 8, not shown).
