Abstract

1,251,006. Sliding-pivoting windows; stays. D. VAA. 13 May, 1970 [19 May, 1969], No. 23068/70. Headings E1J and E2F. A window sash 3 is pivotally and slidably mounted in a frame 1, and is supported during pivotal movement beyond the frame by stay means comprising extensible arms 8 mounted on the frame 1 between the ends of the frame members having grooves 5 along which the sash 3 slides, and articulated at 9 to the edges of the sash 3. As shown, the sash 3 has pivot pins 4 at its upper corners for engagement in vertical grooves 5 in the frame, and the extensible arms 8 comprise lazy-tong devices mounted in housings 7 fitted in recesses in the frame. When the window is closed, the arms 8 are retracted entirely into the housings 7, and cover plates secured to the outer links of the arms 8 cover the openings in the housings 7 through which the arms 8 extend. The lazytong devices may be provided with friction means to hold the window in any open position. The sash 3 may alternatively slide along horizontal grooves 5, and the extensible arms 8 may comprise telescopic tubes. The stay means allow the sash to be pivoted completely through 180‹.
