Abstract

738,024. Venetian blinds. DELANOE, G. Dec. 21, 1953 [Dec. 23, 1952], No. 32669/52. Class 20 (3). A venetian blind comprises a frame 1, for mounting e.g. in a window opening in a building, and a series of horizontal laths 4 mounted on transverse pins 5 slidably fitted in slots 6 formed in the side walls of the base section side members 2, 3 of the frame, the raising, lowering and angular setting of the laths being effected by articulated X-shaped link members 9, 10, accommodated in the side members 2, 3. Each set of link members consists of two lazy-tong structures 9, 10 having common pivot points along their adjacent sides, and being interconnected by links 11 which are also connected to the pivot pins 5 for adjusting the inclination of the laths 4. The links 11 are rotatable, by mechanism not shown, from a horizontal position when the shorter lazy-tong structure 10 is in side-by-side relation with the longer lazytong structure, Fig. 5, and the laths are fully open, to a vertical position when the structure 9 overlies the structure 10, Fig. 7, and the laths overlap in their fully-closed position. Slideways 13, 14 having slots 15, 16 and arcuate slots 17 for pins 18, 19, 20 secured to the lazytong structures ensure uniform relative motion of the separate members in each linkage assembly, which are also interconnected by slotted bars 12. The laths 4 can be raised, by mechanism not shown, the link members folding into the upper ends of the side members 2, 3, and the laths 4 being housed, hidden from view, in the top frame member 26. The laths 4 can be locked in their fully-open position by a pair of vertical bars 21 situated adjacent each side of the blind and operable from inside the building, the bars 21 being pivoted at their ends to arms 24 which are rotatable from an inoperative position, shown in dotted lines, Fig. 8, through 180 degrees to an operative position, shown in full lines, when slots in the bars 21 engage the pivot pins 5 and the laths cannot be rotated.
