wr'NDow-srmnn To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN SQHENK, a citizen of Germany, residing at New York, county of New York, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in WVindow-Shades, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a mounting forwindow shades of the ordinary spring roller type and it has for an object to provide a simple and inexpensive device whereby the roller carrying theshade proper, or curtain, may be moved away from the window frame to permit the free passage of air between the shade and window when the latter is open.

A further object is to provide a device whereby this may be accomplished without' the employment of additional cords or other hand manipulated devices or parts.

For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to-- the following description and accompanying draw ings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.

Figure 1 of the drawings is a perspective view of a window frame and window having my improved shade applied thereto.

Fig. 4 is an enlarged fragmentary face view thereof.

Fig. 5 is a transverse section on the line 5-5 of Fig. 4.

Fig. 6 is a detail horizontal section through one of the side posts of the upper sash showing a modified form of lifting finger.

In the drawings I have shown a window frame of usual construction comprising the vertical side members 1, and horizontal cross members 2. This frame slidably supports the usual upper and lower window sashes in a well known manner, the upper sash comprising the usual side posts 3, and horizontal bars 4, and the lower sash comprising the usual side posts 5 and horizontal bars 6.

According to my invention I secure to the side members 1 of the window frame a pair of brackets 10 which place by screws 11 or otherwise. Each of these brackets has a socket 12 formed there:

Carried by the side posts 3 of the upper sash members near the tops thereof are hooked fingers 20 whose inturned hooked ends 20 are adapted to engage the arms 14, when the upper sashis closed and swing these arms inwardly so asto'bring the shade in close to the top horizontalmember 2' of the window frame. ' The fingers 20 are preferably so disposed with reference to the arms 14: as'to support thelatter in a slightly inclined position as shown so that the arms will swing outwardly and downward-1y by gravity when the upper sash is lowered until they rest on the pins 22, in which position the shade 17 will be well clear of the frame, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 3, leaving a space for the passage of fresh air into the room.

As will be apparent my improved device is entirely automatic in action and does not require the manipulation of anyv extra cords the shade swinging out when the upper sash is lowered and being swung inwardly again by raising of the sash.

In Fig. 6 I have shown a modified arrangement of the fingers for engaging the arms 14. According to this modification a plate 25 is secured by screws 26 or otherwise on each of the side posts 3 of the upper sash and has its face recessed as at 27. A hooked finger 28 is hinged to this plate as at 29 and is provided with a tail 30 engaging a shoulder 31 on the plate to prevent the finger bewith post is swung inwardly until it lies in the recess 27 with its hooked ends 28 projecting inwardly across the edge of the side posts thus permitting free movement of the two sashes.

Having thus described my invention, and

A window shade carrying and moving device comprising a pair of arms hinged at their lower ends to the side members of a window frame, said arms being formed to carry a shade on their free ends, members carried by the upper window sash and positioned-toj engagethesaid arms to movetheir shade carrying ends 1 toward the window frame when the upper sash is raisedabove a predetermined point, said members being arranged to disengage said arms when the nppersash-is lowered below said predetermined point and a pair of projections, carried by the side .members of the window frame and supporting said arms when the upper sashis lowered below the said predetermined point.

A window shade carrying and moving 7 device comprising a pair of arms hinged at their lower ends to the side members of a window frame, said arms being formed to carry a shade on their free ends, and a pair of hooked fingers fixed to the upper window sash and positioned to engage the said arms i.
