Abstract

845,864. Windows. CROMPTON, H. Oct. 30, 1956 [Nov. 2, 1955], No. 31275/55. Class 20(3) A casement window 5, having a combined sliding and pivotal movement, is secured to a fixed frame 1 by means of a bracket 10 which is attached to a vertical member 5a of the casement and is pivoted to a slide 11 engaging a guide rail 12 screwed to the adjacent upper face of the lower rail of the frame 1, and a double hinge comprising an arm 7 which is pivoted at one end in a hinge bracket 8 carried by a stile 3 of the frame 1 opposite the member 5a and at the other end to a bracket 9 fastened to the centre region of the lower rail of the window 5. The outer end 13 of the guide rail 12 is curved inwardly so that the vertical member 5a of the window 5 is displaced clear of the vertical edge of a rebate 4 in the exterior face of the frame 1 during the initial opening movement of the window. A double hinge may be also provided at the corresponding upper side of the frame 1, and the sides of the window at which the pivots and hinges are mounted may be interchanged. The hinge 8 may be mounted on the lower rail of the frame 1.
