Abstract

684,457. Pivoted window opening apparatus. PERSSON, E. S. March 30, 1951 [March 31, 1950]. No. 7484/51. Class. 20 (iii). In a window frame including a sash suspended to swing about a horizontal axis at the middle of the sash and adapted to be released from adjusting means after opening a certain amount to permit of swinging through 180 degrees, the adjusting means also operates at least one other sash and includes means for locking the sashes in closed position to the frame. Superposed sashes 2, 4, in a frame 1 are pivoted on hinges 5 and are operated in common by a handle by means of rods 8, 8<SP>1</SP>, in the bottom frame member, rods 10 in the side frame members and rods 12 in the top frame member. A pin 14 in each of the lower rods engages a slot 15 in the sash frame and a pin 16 in rods 10 similarly engages a slot 17 in the upper portion of the sash side members. The intermediate sash 3 is connected by links 18 with each of the rods 10, and the top sash 4 is operated by side pins 19 and top pins 21 in association with slots 20, 22, similarly to the bottom sash. The adjustment and locking of the different sides may be effected in a definite sequence. In the position shown, the top and bottom sashes may be swung independently having been released from the adjusting rods. Modifications include frames with a horizontal row of sashes and with a sash hinged at its bottom edge above or below the centrally pivoted sash.
