Abstract

485,595. Pivots. LEEMHUIS, J. C. P. Nov. 23, 1936, No. 32034. [Class 65 (ii)] A pivot for metal windows and fanlights comprises a trunnion member 18 fixed to the sash 13 (or the frame) and bearing in a socket plate 14 fixed to the frame 12 (or the sash), the parts being shaped to bear on each other in a plurality of planes to form a weathertight joint and one part being provided with latching means to engage with any of a number of projections or recesses on or in the other part to hold the window in any position. In the form shown, the members 18, 14 have extensions such as 14a embracing the sides of the frames 13, 12 and are fixed to these frames by screws through these extensions or by central screws such as 20. The middle of the member 18 forms a trunnion bearing in a recess in the plate 14, and the edge of the member 18 has a flange 40 fitting in a rebate in the edge of the plate 14. The member 18 has an integral arcuate flange 23 to which is fixed a bracket 24 carrying a pivoted latch 26 adapted to engage with a series of notches in a flange 17 integral with the plate 14; these notches preferably have flared mouths, but fit the latch 26 closely at their inner parts. The bracket 24 can be fixed to the flange 23 at either of two points according to the direction in which the window opens. In a modification, for a fanlight pivoted slightly above its centre so as to close by its own weight, the bracket 24 is extended to carry a cord by which the window may be opened, and the latch 26 is spring-pressed and is released by an arcuate lever pivoted to the flange 17 to lie normally along the inner ends of the notches and operated by a cord to overlap the notches.
