650,186. Windows; shutters. CURTISA. May 28, 1948, No. 14416. Convention date, June 10, 1947. [Class 20(iii)] Windows mounted either horizontally or vertically comprise a pair of sashes AA<SP>1</SP> hinged to the ends of balance levers L pivotally mounted about fixed centres Q, a point at the end of the side of each sash sliding in a guide R of the window frame, so that in swinging the levers through about 180 degrees the sashes move from a closed position in which they lie in the same plane to a fully open position in which one lies over the other leaving half the window opening free. Flaps T on the levers close gaps V in the T-section frame uprights when in alignment and the sashes are closed. A handle on one sash may operate a catch extending as a lock into the frame channel of the other. Modifications include a number of pairs of sashes which may be operated by a common rod and disposed one above the other or side by side; or a pair of sashes may be arranged above a casement window. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, describes also shutters glazed or otherwise in place of windows. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
