Abstract

609,923. Windows. COTTRELL, H. L. (Cole, C. E. N.). March 25, 1946, No. 9188. [Class 20(iii)] A window comprises two mutually hinged elements, each having a width equal to the window opening, one element being hinged to the fixed frame whilst the corresponding edge of the other element is supported in grooves in the fixed frame so that the two elements may be swung open and one slid along so that they project from the opening in the form of a V with ventilating apertures at opposite ends. In the form shown, glazed window frames 1 and 2 are hinged together at 3, frame 1 being hinged to the main frame 5 at 4 whilst frame 2 has pivot pins 7 engaging in grooves 8 in the top and bottom members of frame 5. In the closed position the pins 7 lie behind the hinges 4 and a double window is formed, which may be swung open as a casement, or, by sliding the pivot pins 7 to the other end of grooves 8, the frames 1 and 2 can be caused to project from the opening in the manner shown.
