Abstract

575,513. Hydraulic torque transmission unit. HOOVER, W. S. Feb. 3, 1944, No. 2003. [Class 110 (ii)] A hydraulic torque-transmission unit having radial abutments 10 secured by pins 11 to the end walls of the working chamber 21, and vanes 12 on a rotor 2 have packing-cups 16 attached to the faces of the abutments and vanes. The cups are of synthetic rubber or like oil-resistant material and moulded to shape before being mounted on plates 17 by screws 18 which are locked with wires to prevent unscrewing. Turned-over edges 20 are pressed against the casing bore 21 by the fluid trapped between a vane and an abutment. Fixed metal stops 15 for the vanes are provided. More than the number of vanes and abutments shown may be used. Fluid enters the chamber through a port 7 and leaves through a port 8, these ports being connected with a pump which may be positioned within the dome 1 of a propeller. As shown, the vanes are used to alter the pitch of propeller blades 4 through gearing 3. A cannon 6 may be housed within the hub. Specification 560,107, [Group XXXIII], is referred to.
