Abstract

341,013. Rotary pumps. HUGHES,C., Sandringham, Badminton Road, Downend, Bristol. July 5, 1929, Nos. 20640/29, 32628/29, and 12884/30. [Class 110 (ii).] Fixed-abutment type.-Vanes k rotate about radial axes in a working space formed by a groove in a rotor b. An abutment u projects into this groove between the inlet and outlet passages r, s and has a central slot to allow the vanes to pass when turned into the plane of rotation. The vanes are geared together by bevel pinions o, p, q, n and two opposite vanes are connected by a shaft g having a pinion f gearing with a fixed wheel e. The vanes o, p, q, n may be dispensed with. The rotor may be in two parts, divided in a plane at right-angles to its axis. A modification incorporates a centrifugal pump impeller in the rotor through which fluid is pumped before it enters the rotary pump. A series of pumps may be coupled together in a hydraulic transmission gear in which abutments may be removable electrically or otherwise to allow circulation of the liquid in the casings.
