Abstract
552,900. Roof ventilators. ELECTRICAL IMPROVEMENTS, Ltd., HOWELL, A., and RUNDELL, C. V. Oct. 24, 1941, No. 13692. [Class 137] A ventilating opening A in the roof is surmounted by a box-like structure formed by a ridge-shaped cover E and side plates F within which are two sets of baffles K, M, the upper set extending downwards from the ridge of the cover, and the lower set upwards from longitudinal kerbs G at the bottom corners, the free edges of the lower pair of baffles lying closer together than and beneath those of the upper pair. The baffles, sides and cover are secured to transverse spaced diaphragms C embedded at their bottom edges in the roof girders. The edges of the cover E may be provided with downward extensions to screen the openings above the side plates from the wind. The ventilator, being, of sectioned construction, is built up from flat slabs of concrete or asbestos cement. The wind causes a suction effect to withdraw the hot air from below, and the baffles provide a light trap.
