[Class 29] A shield, awning, or canopy c depends outwardly and downwardly from the upper edge of the air .inlet to water-cooling towers a so as to form a skirt portion partly obturating the upper part of the inlet to obstruct or prevent spray from being carried outside the tower. The pond wall e has a sill f to return drippings to the pond. The shield may be made monolithic with the shell of concrete towers or in precast pieces. Or it may comprise plates hinged to pins 13 and adjustably supported by wires, &c. connected to the outer ends of the plates and to the tower. Alternate plates 10<1> overlap slightly adjacent plates 10.
