Abstract
An atmospheric cooling tower for cooling a fluid by atmospheric air has at the periphery of the base >=1 air inlet with a blower. A horizontally protruding annular platform above the air inlets has a width of at least half the height of an air inlet. This reduces the risk of air recirculation and improves the cooling efficiency. The atmospheric cooler suitably consists of a cylindrical chamber in which heat exchanger elements are housed. Air inlet openings on the side are equipped with blowers, driven by motors. The roof has a number of air outlets. Recirculation is impeded by a protruding annular platform with a width L of at least one half of the heigh H of the air inlets.
