Abstract

464,368. Bomb-proof and gas-proof shelters. LAST, H. A. P. April 4, 1936, No. 10036. [Class 20 (i)] A bomb-proof and gas-protection shelter is constructed of reinforced concrete below the ground surface and is covered by layers of wire mesh in loose material such as sand. The shelter is formed of double reinforced-concrete walls a, b, floor c, and roof m, and access is provided by means of protected stairways f provided with double-doors d e, r s forming locks. The upper protection for the stairways may be provided with air inlet and outlet conduits g h leading to pipes j, k extending above the lower layers of external air. The roof and sides are covered with sand n reinforced with meshwork layers and a ridge roof o with its sides depending below the eaves of the roof m encloses the whole. The roof may have a metal ridge plate. The remainder of the hollow containing the shelter is filled in with sand p reinforced with meshwork q. The shelter may enclose fans for supplying fresh, and ejecting used, air, and these fans may be caused to direct jets of air converging on the entrances to prevent the entrance of gas.
