Abstract
551,872. Alloys; annealing. FAIRWEATHER, H. G. C. (National Smelting Co.). June 12, 1942, No. 8088. [Classes 72 and 82 (i)] Aluminium alloys contain 0.6-12 per cent. of zinc, up to 1.5 per cent. of silicon, 0.1-1.5 per cent. of iron. 0.05-1.5 per cent. of manganese, 0.05-1.5 per cent. of chromium, and an amount of magnesium made up of 34-35 per cent. of the zinc and 73 per cent. of the silicon. The alloys may also contain any of the following: 0.1-1.5 per cent. of nickel, and a total of 0.005-0.5 per cent. of one or more of 0.01-0.5 per cent. of zirconium, 0.01-0.5 per cent. of tungsten, 0.005-0.1 per cent of boron, 0.01-0.5 per cent. of molybdenum, 0.01-0.5 per cent. of vanadium, 0.05-0.5 per cent. of titanium, 0.01-0.5 per cent. of niobium, 0.05-0.5 per cent. of tantalum. The alloys may be quenched or air cooled, followed by ageing at room temperature for 7 days; or they may be aged for 3 hours at 125‹C., or for 10 hours at 180‹C., or at room temperature for a relatively long time such as a few months.
